Neutral Density (ND):

With extreme lighting conditions where reflection is not so much a problem as just pure light quantities, such as snowscapes or on the beach it may be necessary to reduce the amount of light in the image. This is where neutral density filters come into play. Common in video work they have no effect on color balance but simply act like ‘sunshades’ for your camera.
