Special Effects Filters
There are several lenses that exist mainly to create effects – some of the more popular of these I will include below and many if not all of these effects can also be achieved post-shot with imaging software. Some of the more popular include:
-Star or ‘cross screen’ effect: reflected light appears to sparkle and become stars with 4, 6 or 8 points.
-Center Spot: Except for the object in the center everything is diffused or ‘out of focus’ – as an effect this is normally referred to as a ‘vignette’ and is often used in portraits.
-Fog: Provides a fog-like effect on the image area the filter is designed to work upon – good for special conditions and to set moods in portrait work.
-Diffuser: Creates a softer focus, often used in portrait work to soften skin tones and help hide blemishes or wrinkles.
