The Best Nikon Camera Lenses
Wide Angle - Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S

Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S is firmly from the 'Rolls Royce of lenses' category. The lens boasts two of Nikon's premium lens technologies, namely a Nano Crystal coating (N) and Silent Wave Motor (SWM).
The former of these technologies offers premium control over the effect of ghosting and flare while delivering edge and corner sharpness which surpasses lenses of equivalent fixed focal lengths.
SWM technology, meanwhile, ensures super-quick and whisper-quiet focusing. While this is by no means a small or light lens, the results are quite remarkable, making this a very desirable optic for wide angle enthusiasts.
The optical train consists of 14 elements in 11 groups and includes two ED glass elements and three aspherical elements and comes complete with an integrated lens hood.
The 14-24mm is big and bulky at 940 grams, but the quality of glass speaks for itself. The lens performs extremely well, with sharp images and little sign of fringing in normal or high- contrast conditions. Even with harsh. low-lying sunlight enering the lens, there is no visible sign of flare or ghosting, while vignetting when used on the Nikon D3 is hard to see. There is some distortion at both ends of the lens focal length, especially in the 14mm range, but this is to be expected on a lens this wide.
